Goldstone goalscoring legend Willie Irvine is recovering from a fractured skull.
The former Albion and Burnley star also suffered several other broken bones following a fall at his home in East Lancs.
He remains in the high-dependency unit of the Royal Preston Hospital, where his family are hoping for a full recovery.
A family spokesman said: "He is on an upward recovery and we are thankful for everyone’s love and best wishes we have received."
Irvine scored 27 goals for Albion and is still treasured by older fans for the stunner he fired home in front of the South Stand during a promotion four-pointer against Aston Villa in March, 1972, which was shown on Match Of The Day.
