DEBRA Councill is the worker in a care home all families dread.

She slapped two elderly vulnerable dementia patients, people who could not speak for themselves.

On the other hand, carer Amber Coleman is the kind of person we all hope for and are grateful when we find our family members patients are in their care.

She bravely spoke out about Coucill's cruelty and callous behaviour towards elderly people.

And she said: "It's not how I would want my mum to be treated if she went into a care home."

These days very few families have the space, means and capacity to be able to keep our elderly relatives at home with them.

Generally when elderly people become vulnerable and need specialist care, a care home is regarded as the better option.

It is an agonising choice for families. No one wants to see their parent leave their home where they hopefully have enjoyed a happy and independent life.

But when that becomes impossible, often elderly relatives have to go into full-time care.

Finding a clean, spacious, airy home where you will be happy to see them living is hard enough.

But when that has been achieved, you can only hope that the care they will receive in that home will be kindly as well as efficient. Kind words, patience and efficient care should be the currency all care homes deal in. Well done to the magistrates who cracked down on a bad apple.
