A swan has been shot while nesting in a “sickening” attack in Langley.

Swan Support said the female swan from the Grand Union Canal, near St Mary’s Bridge, was shot in the head on Saturday while she was incubating four eggs.

The charity wrote in a social media post after the attack: “This is a sickening act of cruelty and sadly happening much too often. The male swan has also been removed for his safety.

“Both swans are together at Swan Support in Datchet. She is in a critical condition.”

It then posted yesterday morning that the swan was eating and drinking, adding: “[Her] eye sight is improving, although still very poorly.

“Thank you so much for all of your kind messages and support.”

And the charity posted yesterday: “Day 4 and we are pleased to say that the female swan that was shot on Saturday is doing really well and responding to treatment.

“She still has a way to go but we are hopeful for a full recovery. Thank you all again for the kind messages and support over the last few days.”
