A Windsor-born long-distance runner has made history after becoming the third-fastest British woman to complete the women’s race at the London Marathon.

Charlotte Purdue clocked in at two hours 25 minutes and 38 seconds in the Elite Women's Race to come third on the British all-time list behind Paula Radcliffe and Mara Yamauchi.

Speaking to the BBC after the race, she said: “I’m over the moon with that [personal best]. To come back to London and smash my PB is all I could ask for.”

She also talked about her training, saying she runs to Windsor’s Great Park, adding: “My long run is run up to the castle, touch the gates, turn around and run back so it’s pretty cool to finish with this backdrop.”

Charlotte finished in the top 10, coming tenth.
