Travellers set up camp on a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Dorney this afternoon.

Police were called out to Dorney Common just before 5pm today (Thursday) to reports of an unauthorised encampment.

Several caravans and other vehicles were spotted on the private site.

Police tweeted at 6.51pm to say the common was now clear of the unauthorised encampment, adding that a “long convoy” of caravans was seen going westbound on the M4.

The common is managed by the Dorney Commoners Management Committee and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which means it is protected against “damaging operations”.
