THUNDERSTORMS could hit East Lancashire days after the county experienced one of the warmest Easters on record.

Temperatures of 25 degrees have been recorded in parts of the United Kingdom over the last three days.

Across Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Rossendale and Pendle, temperatures have soared to highs of 22 degrees.

The warm weather is set to continue this week in the eastern part of the county but from Wednesday rain showers and thunder storms are expected.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Staying bright and very warm on Wednesday, with some heavy, thundery showers.

“It is expected to be cooler through the rest of the week, with further showers, some heavy, but a few bright spells too.”
