Tributes have been paid to a husband and father after he died in Pakistan.

Former Next security guard Syed Talib Shah, previously of Barkerend Road, Bradford, was taking care of his elderly parents when it is believed he was shot in their home during a botched robbery at 4pm on Monday.

It has been claimed the robbers were trying to steal money and gold jewellery from the home and Mr Shah was protecting his family when he was caught in the line of fire.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance but could not be saved and he died before he arrived.

Mr Shah was living in Dina, a commercial town in the Jhelum District, in the Punjab area of Pakistan with his young daughter and wife, and was aged in his 40s.

The father had moved his young family back to his homeland 14 months ago to look after his parents, but he was a well-respected member of the community in Bradford and used to be the secretary of the Anjuman e Haideria Mosque, in St Mary’s Road, Manningham.

Mr Shah was in Pakistan with his young daughter and wife.

Iqbal Shah, a member of the mosque’s committee, said: “He was a very good person and well-liked in the whole community.

“It was a very big shock and I cannot figure out the words to explain this.

“We are all shocked to hear this news.

“He was a very active person and always did a lot to help.”

Friends of Mr Shah told the Telegraph & Argus he had worked as a security guard for the Next warehouse in Toftshaw Lane for more than a decade.

Another friend of Mr Shah’s said he was an “absolutely sound guy”.

He added: “He was always laughing and smiling and did so much for his community.

“His mum and dad were ill and he put his house up to rent and went straight to them.

“I saw him in Morrisons a few months ago and he wanted to get to them straight away and said he wasn’t going to get another mum and dad.

“He was a good family friend and was always coming round to say hello.

“He was down to earth and always laughing and joking.

"He never had a bad word to say about anyone."

Mr Shah was laid to rest in Pakistan yesterday and services are due to take place at the Anjuman e Haideria Mosque this week.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British-Pakistani dual national following his death in Jhelum, and are in contact with the Pakistani police.”
