A PENSIONER has been taken to hospital following a three-vehicle collision in Blackburn.

Emergency services were called to the Accrington Road crash involving a black taxi, school minibus and white Nissan Micra shortly before 3pm today. A road closure was put in place from Accrington Road Community Centre to the junction of the A678 and Accrington Road.

An eyewitness said that the driver of the white Nissan Micra, a woman in her 70s, drifted into the opposite lane and struck a black taxi before hitting the school mini bus.

The black taxi has then gone into side of blue Toyota parked on other side of road, witnesses added.

The Nissan Micra driver has been taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital after suffering minor injuries. Two other people are also reported to have sustained minor injuries.

Jeffery Baron, from Blackburn, was driving behind the white Nissan on his way home from the shops.

The 61-year-old said: “I was driving behind the white car and it just drifted across the road.

"There was an elderly lady driving and I think she passed out or something. She hit the taxi and bounced off the taxi and hit the mini bus.

"No one was seriously injured and the lady managed to walk out of the car to the ambulance. There was only one kid on the mini bus but I think everyone was ok.”

An ambulance spokesman said: "We were called just before 3pm today to Accrington Road for a three-vehicle collision.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle and ambulance to the scene. There were reports of three patients with minor injuries.

"We have taken one patient, a woman in her 70s, to Royal Blackburn Hospital. There are no details of her injuries at this stage."
