DUNFERMLINE Comic Con is set to rise from the ashes and make a heroic return next weekend.

Last year's event was wiped out by extreme weather as heavy snowfall left the Glen unsafe for the 5,000 comic book fans expected to arrive in the town.

Organised by the Grainger family at Little Shop of Heroes, Alby, Louise and Sinead, were left "emotionally and financially" devastated.

However, generous locals and international names rallied and helped them raise more than £14,000 to ensure their finances were sound.

And now, a year later, the family fun day is back at Pittencrieff Park next Saturday, March 30.

Alby told the Press: "We've looked at the forecast and there's a 20 per cent chance of showers. After last year, that's good enough for us!

"The event WILL go ahead and we're set to rise from the ashes!

"It's not a repeat of what we were expecting to have last year. We've got a new roster of guests as well as new props, panels and workshops.

"We've not copied last year's plans. We've made it bigger and better as a thank you to all of those who supported us.

"It's bigger in every way.

"The unfortunate circumstances of last year have been replaced by what should be a fantastic event."

More than 100 vendors will be present and artists from around the world will be flying in for the convention, recognised as one of the best in the UK.

Among the top names making an appearance at this year's Con is Scottish comic book legend Ian Kennedy, who will be on hand to meet fans and sign copies of his work.

Props from the big-budget Netflix film Outlaw King, which attracted camera crews to Dunfermline for filming, will also be on display including the film's sinister 'Swan Cage'.

Doctor Who fans can step inside the famous Tardis on the day and the astronomers in the crowd will be excited to see a large-scale prop of NASA's iconic Apollo 11 lunar module, Eagle, which will feature in the convention's Space Zone.

Tickets are available from Little Shop of Heroes on Maygate, and e-tickets are available to purchase online at: www.dunfermlinecomiccon.co.uk.
