If the Muslim community wrote a letter to Prime Minister Ardern of New Zealand: Would it read something like this? By Mukhtar Master.

Dear Prime Minister Ardern,

There are no words more befitting than the words – 'Thank You'.

For we are forever grateful, that on a day when our hearts were broken, you looked straight at us, with your piercing wide eyes, and spoke in a way which comforted our hearts, restored our faith and gave hope to a community shattered and in disarray.

We will never forget, that you referred to the Muslim victims as 'they are us' – when other politicians had smeared 'us', vilified 'us' and disowned their Muslim communities as the 'enemy within'.

We will never forget, that you immediately called it out for what it was - which is that it was an act of terrorism and you made no excuses, but rather you categorically disowned the perpetrator and, point blank, refused to even utter his name.

We will never forget, that you wore modest clothing and covered your head as a mark of respect when you visited Muslim victims, families and those affected.

Your attire may only have been a few pieces of cloth, but in 'our' eyes you were the perfect image of a humble Leader – who had cast aside her lofty status, to show humility, empathy and an enormous amount of integrity.

We will forever remember, and never forget, your warm embrace, your genuine look of sadness and your kind comforting words.  If actions speak louder than words, then it was only the word 'Love' which we saw loud and clear.

We will never forget, your offer to financially support all victims and their families.

In this small gesture of goodwill, you clearly demonstrated your values, morality and sense of ownership - traits hitherto unsurpassed by any modern Western World Leader.

We will never forget, that you promised change and you were true to your word.

On Monday, within hours of saying so, your cabinet met and agreed changes to gun laws.

On Tuesday you spoke in parliament and started with the Islamic greeting of, 'As-Salamu Alaykum', and thus indelibly inscribed your name and legacy forever in Muslim hearts and history.

O Prime Minister Ardern:

•    In your embrace - we felt your love and compassion;

•    In your eyes – we saw your grief and sorrow;

•    In your actions – we saw your sincerity, humility, and dignity;

•    And in you – we found 'our' true World Leader.

With Love and Admiration,

‘Your’ Muslim Brethren
