Pupils and teachers at Star Academies schools in the UK have been dressing up as their favourite literary characters as part o World Book Day.
World Book Day is a global celebration of storytelling and reading. Held annually on the first Thursday in March in the UK, World Book Day sees schoolchildren and teachers alike dress up as their favourite characters from well-known tales, and share stories they love.
Pupils at the Blackburn Olive school dressed up as their favourite literary characters including Bananaman, The Cat in the Hat, Violet Beauregarde, Mary Poppins, Willy Wonka, Peter Pan, Harry Potter, Oompah Loompahs and Gangsta Granny.
Susannah Berry, Acting Principal of The Olive School, Blackburn, said: “Good reading habits start early and children who share books with others are more likely to develop language skills and advanced reading levels.
"We want to engender in our pupils a lifelong love of reading and literacy to fire up their creativity and imaginations. The pupils really enjoy getting dressed up for World Book Day each year and there were some fantastic costumes worn. It is a fun way to encourage all our pupils to become avid readers.”
