It was the goal which ended a winless run and lifted the growing Albion gloom.

But Florin Andone’s header might have done something more than that.

His goal to beat Huddersfield seemed to spark a debate as the Seagulls look to Selhurst Park.

The Romanian has become a massive favourite in his first season with Albion.

That moment when he stood on the wall and celebrated in front of the adoring fans will go down in folklore if it sparks a big finish to the season.

So now the talk is: Does Andone start against Crystal Palace?

We asked it ourselves to our Fans Panel members in The Argus.

The question was: Given his goal on Saturday and in the derby, would you start Andone at Palace?

Tim Ayling replied: “Yes, I would. Murray appears to have lost a little confidence just at the wrong time, but Andone’s pace gives us more of a threat anyway.”

Tomas Heasman agreed: “Yes I would, as he is more mobile and offers different options. Murray could still be valuable albeit coming on from the bench.”

Alan Brownings said: “Based on current form, start him every game.”

But Colin Beales countered: “Murray has had a bad couple of games, but at the moment I start with him every time and know I have Florin in my back pocket to make an impact. Saturday changes nothing.”

The Argus:

Glenn Murray scores at Selhurst Park last season

Warren Aspinall, the former Albion player who now studies their performance’s for BBC Radio Sussex, has backed Andone to start.

That was an opinion he expressed on air both straight after the Huddersfield game and during the midweek Albion Unlimited podcast.

Aspinall said: “I think Andone may start, only because I think these two centre-backs in Dann and Tomkins are not the most mobile of players.

“If we can get down the sides of them with Andone, moving them about a little bit, I think that could play into our hands.”

Of course, if we are talking about players having history against Palace, look no further than Murray.

He has scored in the last three derbies against his old club.

So what now? Does Chris Hughton go with the tried and tested and keep Andone up his sleeve for impact?

Or does he start him to pull the Palace centre-backs, get down the side of them, run his socks off - with Murray available for a later entry with the wisdom to exploit any gaps which appear?

The latter option would be a change of tack for Hughton.

Look at the numbers for the season so far.

Murray, pictured, has started 23 of the 28 league games to date and come on as sub in the other five.

By contrast, Andone, whose season did not really get under way until the start of November due to injury, has just four Premier starts, three of them away from the Amex.

The odd match out came at Manchester City, where Jurgen Locadia started up front.

Murray has been replaced in 12 of those 23 starts, nine times by Andone and on three occasions by Locadia.

He has come on as sub five times, replacing Andone in each of his four starts and, on one occasion, going on for Anthony Knockaert.

That leaves the top scorer with 11 full 90 minutes in the league.

Meanwhile Andone, as well as those four starts in which he made way for Murray, has come off the bench 12 times – nine times for Murray, twice for Pascal Gross and once for Beram Kayal.

Strangely, he has yet to play a full 90 minutes in league or cup but has a full 120 to his name – at West Bromwich, when an FA panel later decided he should have been sent off.

Andone’s four league starts have included the away trips to Huddersfield, Burnley and Bournemouth plus one home match – Everton.

The two strikers have been on the field together on three rather fleeting occasions in the league and they were all away from home – at Everton, West Ham and Fulham.

So what happens now? The clever money probably says Murray to start again with Andone as an option off the bench.

It has worked before. It could work again.

Andone, after all, scored his wonder goal at home to Palace as a sub - albeit an early one.

The man who had an awful derby record in Spain, playing for Deportivo La Coruna against Celta de Vigo, believes Palace will be waiting for him and the Seagulls this time.

How long they have to wait for Andone or for Murray will remain to be seen until teamsheet time at 11.30am on Saturday.
