Women will take to the stage in a special production of The Vagina Monologues to mark International Women’s Day at the Kala Sangam Arts Centre.

Running from Wednesday 6 to Friday 8 March, all money raised from the production will go to supporting work with survivors of domestic abuse across the Bradford district.

The show features women from across Bradford (some of whom have been victims of domestic violence themselves) performing the iconic monologues that celebrate women’s strength and sexuality.

The Vagina Monologues was written in the 1990’s by journalist Eve Ensler, after interviewing over 200 women about their bodies and their lives.

The play has been performed by countless women across the world as an act of defiance and liberation.

The members of Bradford based Surviving Sistas Pop Up Theatre Group have been working with Lisa Woods from Stage Left Theatre Workshop, to combine physical theatre with the monologues to create a moving, empowering and inspirational production.

Diana Reed from Keighley Domestic Violence Support said, "You can really see how much N (performer in The Vagina Monologues) has grown in confidence. I know from talking to her that doing this has made a real difference in other parts of her life".

Alex Croft, Creative Director of Kala Sangam said, "I am very proud that we are bringing The Vagina Monologues to Kala Sangam – seeing local women, many of whom have overcome domestic violence deliver these powerful and important speeches is inspiring."
