FORGET romantic crooning and soppy ballads, an anti-Valentine’s drag night went down a storm in Blackburn.
The drag showcase, called Anti-Valentine’s Day Massacre, saw four professional UK drag acts take to the stage for a two-hour set at the Electric Church Club, Northgate, on Saturday.
The show included ‘anti-love song’ performances, a catwalk competition and a headline slot by drag act Charity Kase, who has featured in Vogue magazine.
Organiser Lucie Bates, from Accrington, said the event was so successful they have already started planning the next one.
Ms Bates said: “There were about 100 people in total and the audience was great — they really got involved with it all.
“It was amazing, the whole night just really blew my mind.
“The guys at Electric Church were brilliant too and we’ve already booked a date for our next performance.”
Ms Bates, who works as a customer service advisor at Express Gifts, Clayton-le-Moors, said she wanted to put on an event that was accessible and inclusive for LGBT people in East Lancashire.
She said: “The performers are some of my really close friends and the whole show was a team effort, it was fantastic.”
One of the acts performing was Miss Zodi, who is originally from Cornwall.
She said: “The night was really enjoyable. I had so much fun, and I can’t wait to come back.”
The next drag night, called Easter Massacre, will be at Electric Church on Saturday, May 4. Tickets will be available to buy from Skiddle in the coming weeks.
