TWO men who took part in a vicious street attack face ending up behind bars after pleading guilty in court to charges relating to the incident

Nasar Khan ended up in hospital and around £20,000-worth of damage was caused to a BMW 4-Series coupe in the attack on Queens Park Road, Blackburn, last August.

Burnley Crown Court also heard that a child was in the back seat of the car. Police had said it was the driver’s five-year-old son.

Ishtam Iqbal and Hassan Waqqar Malik pleaded guilty to a number of offences including affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

Recorder Guy Mathieson, who ordered pre-sentence reports on the pair, said that it was clear that Malik was a ‘potentially dangerous man’ with a history of taking part in group order offences. The 33-year-old was remanded in custody after giving his plea. Iqbal, 20, who was of previous good character, was released on bail.

Prosecuting, Mr Jon Close said: “It has been heard that somebody involved was in possession of an axe, and Mr Malik a bat. This attack was a joint enterprise.”

In a video of the attack, uploaded to social media, five men can be seen trashing the silver BMW 440i, smashing the windscreen and sending its wing mirrors flying. The driver can be seen trying to drive away, but his path is blocked by another car.

In a second video seen by the Lancashire Telegraph, a man thought to be the driver can be seen with blood pouring from his head.

Councillor Salim Sidat, who represents the Audley and Queens Park area condemned the ‘disgusting attack’. He said: “There is no place for this kind of behaviour in our society.

“There was a child in the car and many people watching it take place from the street.

“I am glad that the police and other parties have done their jobs in bringing these men to court and I hope that they are given a justified sentence for their actions.”

Iqbal, of Whitendale Crescent, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to affray, while Malik, of Pringle Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm, damaging property and possession of an offensive weapon.

They will both appear in Burnley Crown Court for sentencing on February 28.
