THE future is looking bright for two students who have picked up national awards after scoring the top marks in the country.

Adam Mason and Adriana Stiuriuc, who study at Bradford College, received the awards from the Association of British Dispensing Opticians.

They both scored top marks in the country in exams, with Adriana achieving the best overall mark in the ABDO exams and picking up the Stepper Prize.

Adam was presented with the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians' Derek McLaren Memorial Award for the highest mark in the final qualifying exams.

Adriana is studying a foundation degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing, and her programme leader Dean Dunning said: “We are immensely proud of Adriana and her award here at Bradford College.

"She is a model student and an absolute pleasure to teach. Her achievement in winning the Stepper Prize is national recognition for her hard work and commitment.

"I have no doubt whatsoever that Adriana will go on to a have a long and highly successful career in the optical industry.”

She began the final year of her course in September, and hopes to complete her qualification as a Dispensing Optician - a person qualified to prescribe and dispense as well as to make glasses and contact lenses - next summer.

Adam recently completed his foundation degree on the same course, and currently works at a Specsavers clinic in Stockport.

Mr Dunning added: “Throughout his three years at Bradford College, Adam demonstrated an exceptional understanding of the subject and always performed to a very high standard.

"This national award is fully deserved for his hard work.”

Bradford College celebrated 70 years of delivering ophthalmic dispensing courses this year.
