A MAN says his car is going to be written off after a speeding driver crashed into vehicles outside his house.

Graham Ashworth, of Bolton Road, Darwen, woke up to go to work this morning to see his Ford Mondeo was damaged and a letter through his door saying police had tried to talk to him about an incident at 11pm when a Audi TT crashed into some cars yesterday.

He said: “All the back end of my car is buckled and I have spoken to a garage and they say it will have to be written off.

“The car smashed into the car behind me and it then went into mine.

“You can see all the damage where it hit and I was told that someone ran away of the car.

“How anyone has got out of the car I don’t know.”

Mr Ashworth insists it was lucky no one was seriously hurt. He said: “There is an island in the middle of the road but that really needs to be taken away as we get wagons swinging in and out to avoid it and nearly hitting our cars.

“The island has been hit a few times in the past.

“It's a good job there was no one walking on the path otherwise they would have been hit.”

The car narrowly missed a wall and nearby house.

Simon Knagg, also of Bolton Road, said: “I was just getting to sleep when I heard a loud car speeding past the my house, lots of skidding then a huge collision.

“I phoned the police straight away and went out to find an Audi TT sideways into the back of a car. There were lots of debris and people coming out onto the street. Nobody was hurt and there were enough people around to assist further so I went to bed.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called at around 11pm where two vehicles were involved in an accident and one car has gone into a parked car.”
