A BRADFORD woman has celebrated her 106th birthday at a party with relatives from India and Canada.

Kartari Chand, who held the record for being the World's oldest married couple with her late husband, Karam, was joined by her extended family during an event at a Bradford Banqueting, in Thornton Road.

The couple married in 1925 and celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary in 2015.

They said at the time their aim was to reach a century of marriage, but Mr Chand passed away in October 2016, aged 110.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Zafar Ali, also joined the celebrations, which were attended by hundreds of family and friends.

Their son, Paul Chand, said: "It was a wonderful party.

"All the family turned up from the UK and also relatives from India and Canada.

"The Lord Mayor of Bradford turned up especially for this and it was excellent.

"I hope everyone's parents can share the same sort of life my parents had together.

"I'm very proud of all the people who turned up and would like to thank them."
