The Gujarat Hindu Society in Preston is celebrating the Navratri festival which pays homage to the lady goddess Durga.
The festival is covered over nine days with clap dancing for ladies only in the afternoon in temple and for more energetic people in the evening in Main Hall between 8.00pm and 11.00pm.
The festival is celebrated by Hindus universally and prayers are said in the name of different goddesses and ask for her blessings during this auspicious period.
During this time everyone makes an effort to put their best gear and participate in the festival.A lot of people fast during this festival.
Sewa Day ( Selfless service Day)
Sewa is a sanskrit word and embedded in the dharmic traditions of ancient India.It is a universal concept which involves performing an act of Kindness expectation of reward in return.This year Sewa Day falls on 14th October 2018.The youth Club of Gujarat Hindu Society is collecting tinned and longlife food to donate to food bank.
Stem Cell Donation Awareness Drive
The youth club is also conducting Stem Cell Donation Drive and they were able to recuit 18 new donors as part of of Stem Cell awareness drive.
