A groom cancelled his wedding whilst the bride was waiting at the reception, claiming she spent too much time messaging people on WhatsApp.
The couple were due to be married in Amroha in northern India.
After the wedding party was left waiting for hours for the groom to arrive, the father of the bride rang the groom's family.
He was told that the wedding was cancelled because the groom was unhappy that the bride used WhatsApp too much.
The family of the bride angrily demanded compensation from the groom's family after they had paid an excessive dowry of 6.5 million rupees (£70,000).
Superintendent Vipin Tada is reported to have said, "The bride had a habit of using WhatsApp excessively and was sending messages to her in-laws even before the wedding."
