A DANGEROUS driver has avoided being jailed after she started a 15-minute police chase which only came to an end when her tyres were blown out and she hit a tree.

Alishbah Khan, 25, of Victor Road, Bradford, was driving her Seat Leon 'at speed' along Whetley Lane, in Four Lane Ends, on May 30 this year when she was spotted by police.

Philip Adams, prosecuting, said officers saw Khan at midnight and immediately followed the defendant and indicated for her to pull over, but she sped off and failed to stop.

He said: "She drove through a No Entry sign and through two red lights.

"At one point she clipped the curb having lost control at a junction because of the speed she was travelling at and she clipped a parked car, damaging its wing mirror."

Police deployed a stinger device on North Park Road and punctured her tyre, however, this did not convince her to stop and she managed to keep the vehicle moving for a short distance further until she hit a tree on Athol Street.

The defendant was still not ready to give up at this point and ran from the scene.

Bradford Crown Court heard the foot chase did not last long and she was apprehended and arrested.

She was charged with Dangerous Driving and driving without insurance and pleaded guilty to both offences.

No mitigation was given on her behalf.

Recorder Anthony Hawks ordered Khan to complete a two year Community Order, 60 hours of unpaid work, a 25 day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and banned her from driving for 12 months.

He told her: "It's a serious matter because you have pleaded guilty to an offence of Dangerous Driving and another offence of driving without insurance.

"You got yourself into a police chase which went on for some 15 minutes.

"During the course of which you went through a No Entry sign, two red lights, and have hit a curb and parked car.

"It goes without saying that you could have been killed and you could have killed somebody else.

"You could have caused yourself serious injury and caused substantial damage.

"It's quite plain that you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself and this is unlikely to occur again."
