Right on cue. Ramadan begins and so does the dry and warm weather!
Here are five simple tips to staying hydrated.
Drink water when you open your fast. As tempting as it is to have a sugary drink, refrain from that and stick to water.
There is ample time between sunset and going to bed to drink plenty of water gradually to stay hydrated.
When you open your fast, choose to eat food that has a high water content, for example cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries, apples and spinach.
Avoid fried food and spicy dishes as they will increase your thirst.
Avoid caffeine. Caffeine has a diuretic effect that increases urine production, which in turn flushes out salt and water from the body making you thirstier.
Try and keep out of the heat when possible. Excess exposure to the sun will cause sweating leading to fluid loss.
