I am all for standing up to Donald Trump and his ban on those from seven predominantly Muslim nations. But can we really stop this guy coming to the UK?

Donald Trump will visit the UK just like every other despot ruler we have invited to these shores every year. Her Majesty, like it or not, will have to wine and dine him.

We have had among other’s Syria’s Bashar al- Assad, Mobutu Sese Seko, the president of Zaire, Nicolae Ceaușescu, the former dictator of Romania and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

We do this because it is business. What on earth has morals got to do with it?

I do feel sorry for Her Majesty for having to host Trump and these long list of questionable rulers but I guess it comes with the job.

In the past few days the familiar Muslim canvassers have started sending their all too familiar texts. Sign this and sign that and make sure Trump doesn’t visit the UK.

But how we soon forget to do the same when it comes to other rulers.

In the past year the Saudi Arabian government has bombed the hell out of Yemen. Backed by our weapons and those of the Americans the rulers care little of ‘Islamic ideals’. This is about killing scores of people in the quickest way possible.

We say little about this because the Saudi’s give generous donations to our mosques and many of us follow their Islamic school of thought.

I can’t see many groups out on the streets with their buckets ever raising any money to help Yemen.

We pick and choose our fights because we don't like to upset our religious backers.

On the other side we have the Iranians along with the Russians who have bombed the hell out of Syria.

Syria has been obliterated because of the Russians as much as anyone else.

Come Palestine and we Muslims will be out on the streets again with a common 'enemy'.

You can’t also discount how both Pakistan and India look to make it increasingly difficult for opposing nationals to travel to their nations.

Even more strange is how we are quick to forget how South Asians are treated in the Gulf states themselves. They are nothing more than slave labour paid shockingly bad wages and forced to live in even worse conditions.

Let me know when you host a demonstration for that and I might join you.

No-one likes Trump – I get it. He’s an embarrassment to America. His administration is already looking like something out of a Marx brothers movie. He is quite clearly racking up points with those that think Muslims are the biggest problem on the planet.

But let us face the facts - Trump will be visiting the UK and he will be welcomed.

Because in the world of politics - business always comes before ideals.
