A common theme that is set to be repeated again in 2016. And this theme will be played out in various ways in the next 12 months.

On the back of telling some Muslims that they quietly condone IS extremist ideology David Cameron said this week, "We will come down hard on those who create the conditions for that narrative to flourish.

"And we will have greater confidence in, indeed we will revel in, our way of life.

"Because if you walk our streets, learn in our schools, benefit from our society, you sign up to our values - freedom, tolerance, responsibility, loyalty."

Something that Muslims agree with wholeheartedly. But it doesn’t matter does it? In the coming weeks we are likely to see a front page story condemning Muslims for not being British or a government minister making some remark about how ‘Muslims must do more’.

The idea seems to be that if you tell people over and over again about how they are wrong and we are right then sooner or later they will indeed crack and we can all live happily as one big happy family.

Sorry but Mr Cameron and his advisors could do with speaking to Muslims.

We are not talking Muslim representatives or groups who are providing nothing more than the odd soundbite in the press.

There is very little point in telling Muslims to embrace British values when most of the population does not know what this entails.

To be honest, it means three things. Don’t kill your own people up, support us in all our foreign policy initiatives and remember you are British first and Muslim second.

This might not seem so blatantly obvious to some but to most Muslims it is. You only have to sit amongst a group of typical Muslims to realise that the more you instill British values the more we will reject them.

Government policy towards Muslim in the past has been like trying to break down a wooden door with a feather. If you simply don’t want to use the right tools then don’t blame yourself if you nothing happens.

You don’t need to tell Muslims they are aren’t British enough. They hold British values close to their heart far more than many of those people who claim to be ‘Truly British’.

Asking for loyalty Mr Cameron? It won’t make a difference and deep down everyone knows it. To many senior members of the establishment we will never be British enough.
