A special event is being hosted by Women’s Voice which aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding violence against women.

‘Violence Against Women. - NOT acceptable!’ is a ladies’ only event where two ladies, one Asian, and one non-Asian share their experiences.

It follows the widely publicised rapes of women in India.

Anjum Anwar, Chair of Woman’s Voice told us, “Following the recent widely publicised rapes of women some commentators claimed it was the woman’s fault.

“This mind set that women ‘invite’ molestation needs to be challenged.

“Woman’s Voice is asking sisters to make this OUR ‘Winter Spring’ and make sure that we send out a strong message, that violence against women and girls will not be tolerated.

A booklet of ten stories which will help other ladies in a similar situation to speak up is also being printed. “This will allow those ladies who cannot access other venues and times, and we will be repeating this in other centres, later on in the year.” added Ms Anwar.

The event will be free and will be held at Audley Community/Sports Centre on Monday, March 11 from 11am to 2 pm. For further information call 07903 731106 or email saeda.hussain@ womansvoice.info
