Nothing these days is new or innovative, especially in Asian music so you will often hear music, lyrics and beats ‘recycled’ and the opening bars of a track will remind you of something you’ve already heard.
That’s the first thing I felt when the song ‘XOXO’ started, however I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy the song the more it got into it.
The addition of Tasha Tah’s vocals in the first minute of the song is a nice touch.
The lyrics may be a little cheesy but I admittedly don’t really concentrate on them in this song, it’s more of a dance track than a sing-along song. Major point loss for the over-use of auto-tune, which seems to be becoming a bit too common these days.
It suits the song here but let’s hope it doesn’t overshadow true talent in the future.
XOXO – Culture Shock features Mumzy Stranger, Tasha Tah, Char Avell, Lomaticc, DJ Baba Kahn, & Sunny Brown.
MY Verdict: A good song, the collaborations fit nicely and the song is catchy. The Punjabi and English mix has worked well here and the music is a lot of fun. I’ll be downloading this.
