The most impressive thing about ‘Sammi’ is not it’s well produced video showcasing a true representation of Punjabi folk dance or even that the song as a whole works, in an industry where music is so twisted now that you find people singing being in clubs or driving cars in a ballad form.

It is actually the fact that the Denmark-born artist, Anita, neither speaks nor reads Punjabi yet can still sing it better than most artists on the scene today.

.

Anita is the first non-Asian woman from the West to sing and release a solo album in Punjabi and plans to continue to produce more music in Punjabi after her first album ‘Heer’ (2006) received numerous awards & honours including recognition by Denmark’s own ambassador in India, Freddy Svane.

The song itself is great, it totally captures the culture of Punjab and the whole concept fits.

The genre may not be to everybody’s taste but I’d definitely recommend you give it a listen.
