Rani Mukerji will reprise her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy as she faces off with a young but evil villain who targets young girls.
Mardaani 2 deals with the serious crimes committed by youth and focusses on how these teenagers escape facing punishments for atrocious crimes like rape and sexual assault.
This is not the first time one of Rani Mukerji’s films have tackled a serious social issue, with Mardaani tackling child trafficking. Rani has spoken about how she hopes that the film franchise will continue to highlight social evils and spark conversations across the country.
She said, “We would want Mardaani to be a franchise that stands for tackling various societal issues. Mardaani series would stand for being a mirror of society, to educate, create awareness and also leave a strong message for people to sit up and notice”.
Written and directed by Gopi Puthran, Mardaani 2 will be released in cinemas on 13 December 2019.
