At least 11 people were killed today when a bomb exploded next to a bus carrying Shia worshippers in the south of Pakistan, officials said.
The bomb, which was apparently attached to a motorcycle, detonated as the bus drove by in Karachi.
Local TV footage showed security officials examining the twisted metal pieces of the wrecked motorbike. The bus appeared severely damaged and windows in nearby buildings were also shattered.
The bus was carrying mainly women and children and was heading to a religious gathering, senior police official Javed Akbar said.
The city has seen a number of attacks aimed at minority Shia in recent weeks, including one that killed dozens at a procession for a religious holiday and sparked subsequent riots.
Police chief Waseem Ahmad appealed to Shia Muslims in the city of more than 16 million to remain calm.
