According to reports Eid will be celebrated on Tuesday September 30.

In a statement Saudi Arabia's Supreme Judicial Council said it had established that Monday marked the end of the month of Ramadan according to the lunar calendar.

The Gulf News reports the Shawwal moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, therefore, the Kingdom will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr tomorrow.

Meanwhile popular website moonsighting.com - states Eid will be on Wednesday.

The website states, "The Astronomical New Moon is on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 8:12 GMT, 4:12 am EDT, 1:12 am PDT).

"It will not be visible on September 29 except small possibility in Ploynesian Islands. On Tuesday, September 30, it will be visible in New Zealand Australia, Indonesia, South Asia, Africa and Americas.

"In North America on September 30, it can be seen in Southern belt states. So, Eidul-Fitr is expected on Wednesday, October 1, most of the world, Insha-Allah. Also, according to the criteria adopted by Fiqh Council of North America, and European Council for Fatwa and Research, the first day of Shawwal is on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, which would be after completing 30 days of Ramadan.

"In the UK moon cannot be sighted on Sep 29 or Sep 30, 2008. Sighting in UK could only be on October 1.

"However a new Fatawa from Deoband, India, is that even if moon is seen in as far south as South Africa, UK will accept that sighting. According to this criterion Eid in UK will be on October 1, Insha-Allah, because the moon should be easily visible in Australia and South Africa on September 30.

In Pakistan, moon may not be seen on Septmber 30, except by high powered telescope. So, Eid in Pakistan is expected to be on Octber 2, 2008."

How did Saudi sight the moon? I am starting to believe that Saudi relies on birth of the moon rather than sighting it. Bearing in mind that the moon could not have been seen in Saudi on the 29th, i think its safe to say that Saudi follows calculation. Secondly, why are Muslims so hell bent on when Saudi declares Eid? I have never read a verse of the Quran or a Hadith that says follow Saudi Arabia!!! How Islamic can they be, if they still rule the area with their iron clad monarchy.

hey listen up man. Saudi Arabia does not go by calculation all you guys think that cuz none of you guys live here. I lived here my whole life and when you to the mosque for maghrib the imam and his men try to sight the moon and i have seen that with my own eyes. And also Saudi Arabia the most islamic country and the country where islam was born do you guys seriously think they would lie to all these muslims to get a prize?!? seriously that was a really stupid thing to say. And what i dont get is you guys trust all these other countries which are either non muslim countries or countries which islam is even enforced upon. And people follow Saudi Arabia beacuse it is a reliable source. I have witnessed the sighting of the moon. And where the question of monarchy lies. Saudi Arabia is one of the strongest countries no matter what people say. There are people from all over the world that come here to work and they like it they make 10 times as much money then any where in the world. I go to an American school where all the teachers say This country is really nice we make almost 10 times as much money as we did in the States. We save A lot of money here.

hawabis are off their heads, just because makkah and medina are in saudia does not mean that the people who run this country are sincere in their actions . no one is perfect. the saudis use this notion that the holy palces are in saudia and that everyone should listen to them. signs of kiyamat are saudi hawabis. a religion they have made themselves and funded by dirty kafir money.

To all those that have slated the saudi's, dont suppose you heard about the 3 people in Bradford that saw the moon on monday night - only 6 hours old . Shahadah taken by Mufti Ibrahim from Madni Masjid! so stop talking nonsense science is just theory, the prophet told us to look physically for the moon not at scientific charts. And anyway this same science that you so hold in high regard believes in evolution, denies a creator etc etc but you easily follow them as opposed to the testimony of a Muslim. shame on you for fasting on Eid ul Fitr.

the people who saw the moon on monday need to wear glasses and stop lying. who said we have to follow saudis, the religion which they practice called hawabi is haram, there was a fatwa against them about 300 years ago. hawabis are wolves in sheep skin.

SURAH 55:5 "The sun and moon follow courses exactly computed."

The is nothing wrong with using astronomical data in sighting the moon. Provided that the new month is announced on the actual sighting of the hilal.

The question is are saudi using pre-calculation or mistaken sightings?

There is no doubt saudi were mistaken yet again, the moon was only 7 hours old from new, at this stage its impossible to see the hilal (crescent)

and for confirmation, the moon had set before sunset, i.e moon below the horizon.

I suggest you all speak to you mufti's, masjid commitees and advise them to atleast consider the wifaqul ulama sighting criteria for the UK.

A QUESTION FOR ALL THE SUNNIS OUT THERE...
DONT BE OFFENDED BY IT, ITS JUST A SIMPLE QUESTION.

YOU CLAIM PRAYING BEHIND A NON SUNNI IMAAM IS HARAAM... WHAT I ASK IS,
THE MEAT THAT YOU EAT DAY IN DAY OUT IS THAT MADE HALAAL BY A SUNNI?

Another question... Do you Sunnis eat from takeaways?

These self proclaimed 'SUNNIS' do themselves no favours at all. If they claim to hate Saudi's and insinuate that other so called 'NON-SUNNI's' are somehow kafir, then I find it hard to understand how much of a minority they have become. The truth is that Islam has been purified from the Bid'aah ans Shirk these so-called 'Sunni's' so ingratiate themselves in, like bowing to their Pir's, holding music sessions under the guise of sufism and then claiming to be the only 'true' Muslims. The authentuc Sufi Shaikhs were too busy practicing and preaching their deen unlike yours truely in Blackburn. I suppose you'll have to do individual salat's when you go to the haram in Makkah and Madinah. As according to your definiton of Muslim, is it under a Kafir occupation. Nau-thobillah, the Ulema of Saudi are the true followers of the Sunnah and deserve the honour of leaders of the Ahle Sunnah Wal Jam'aah

BTW to the Wifaq guy..the quote from the Qur'aan is a little misleading. The correct translation is not 'computed' but fixed, but hey to win an argument who cares, Qur'aan or no Qur'aan...also Mr 'Sunni' from Blackburn you have a new pen pal from the Wifaq(whatever or whoever that crowd is!)

jk did i touch a nerve! does the truth heart?
wahabi from london what are you on about, who are you kidding you joke. wahabi is haraam. it was said people like you would come later on and decieve people and lie. your wahbi leader was a butcher of innocent children and women, enough said.

1. 'hawabi' is not a word
2. 'wahhabi' refers to a person who belongs to a salafist group which holds a shaykh of thesame name in high esteem (commonly followed in saudi)
3. sunnis are opposite to shiites - so whther ur a 'brelvi' or 'deobandi' or 'wahhabi' (don't lyk these labels) ur a sunni muslim
4. most of the ppl in england who follow saudi in england are not 'wahhabis' - hanafis and other groups too.
5. I think you should research the terms ur using in ignorance.
