Why David Davies is the easy target

It has become common practice in recent years to link dangerous actions of a few individuals to Muslims.

But we are indeed treading on dangerous ground if we are now suggesting that ‘some communities’ are in some way responsible for crimes such as rapes as David Davies MP has stated.

For a mainstream politician to hold such views is disgusting and frightening to say the least. To suggest now that parents in those communities are responsible in some way for the actions of a rapist will make many feel very uneasy indeed.

Should the white community be responsible for the actions of the nursery nurse in Plymouth or the actions of young boys who tortured two children in Edlington, Darlington?

It should not make any difference what religion an individual is when he or she committs the crime. But Is Mr Davies alone in his thinking?

Sadly not. It may not have escaped many people’s attention there are elements of the wider media who also tend to link ‘Muslim cases’ with specific crimes.

So, what Mr Davies has done is simply stated what some commentators and columnists have been repeatedly suggesting. Albiet he has left little to the imagination.

Rather than take each case in context unfortunately there are those who feel it is necessary to point out a criminal is Muslim when it has no bearing on the case whatsoever.

May that case be linked to drugs, immigration or fraud.

It will be easy in the coming days to criticise Mr Davies for making these comments.

But should we not also be looking at a wider culture which continues to perpectuate these myths?
