Asian weddings have been hit by the recession according to a new survey.
Website SingleMuslim.com says 58% of weddings planned by couples who met through them have been affected by the Credit Crunch.
It is believed the average Asian wedding costs around £20,000. The website recently polled its members to find out whether the Credit Crunch is affecting their wedding preparations.
Whilst 25% of respondents admitted that th ey will have to rein in their expenditure, cutting back on some of the costs associated with a Muslim wedding, 16% said that their plans had changed considerably.
18% even said that their wedding plans were now 'on hold' as a direct result of the Credit Crunch.
Adeem Younis, Managing Director of SingleMuslim.com, said: “ Organising a traditional Muslim wedding can be a major financial commitment, and it is understandable that couples are starting to look at reducing costs, or even postponing their big day for a few months.”
However there was some good news as 42% of respondents stated that their wedding plans had not changed in any way.
Adeem Younis said: “I’m delighted that so many o f our users are pressing ahead with their weddings and I wish them every success and happiness in their lives together.”
