Set amidst beautiful Cheshire countryside, Walton Hall Gardens is a great day out for all the family.
Our Green Flag and VAQAS accredited Cheshire Garden of Distinction has something for everyone during each of the seasons, and with excellent transport links, being adjacent to the A56 and 2 miles from Junction 11 M56, 2 miles from Warrington town centre and adjacent to the Bridgewater Canal, there are many ways to get here. There are some excellent walks in the area to get to Walton Hall Gardens, or to see the surrounding countryside such as Appleton Reservoir or various villages, and much birdlife and general wildlife to see whilst doing so. The list is endless, of reasons that our visitors come to Walton Hall Gardens. Families, casual visitors, and also groups visit to enjoy the beautiful gardens which have formal beds, rose gardens and shrub boarders with scattered specimen trees. A great draw is to view the splendid display of daffodils contained within the Sale Paddock, adjacent to the Golf Course and also rhododendrons and azalea shows in spring. The herbaceous boarders host the likes of Hosta’s, Anemone, Asphodeline, Dierama, Penstemon, Aconitum , Bergina, Heuchera and a great many more. The Children’s Zoo is extremely popular, and like the gardens, lawned areas and playground, is free to access. Bo Bo, our famous donkey even has his own very popular facebook page and shares the zoo with many animals including some red squirrels that are part of a wider breeding programme. The play area is popular and new equipment is to be installed for Spring 2012. With tickets at very reasonable prices, there are various outdoor games to play, including crazy golf, pitch & putt, putting, bowling and the like and the coffee shop is open at weekends, and midweek throughout school holidays. There are a good and frequent variety of events at the Gardens, with some extending into Walton Hall itself, which was the home of the Greenall Family, famous for Brewing and cattle breeding from the 1830’s. Please see various onsite and web based promotions for updates of the full spread of events, which include the brilliant ‘’Keeper for the Day’’ for children to be able to assist with looking after the animals. The massive Warrington Disability Partnership’s Disability Awareness Day is held at Walton Hall Gardens, which is the largest event of this type in Europe, and has in excess of 20,000 visitors in mid July annually. There is a Heritage yard, and the old Coachouse houses a cycle museum. Various children’s amusements that are sympathetic to the setting of Walton Hall Gardens, such as a land train, pottery making or painting, trampolines etc. are a popular visit. Leaving the pay and display car park, you enter the Gardens
over the Bridgewater Canal bridge, where you can often see a variety of water birds and at dusk can see Bats. Turning right, you pass the toilets and around the corner is the coffee shop and Heritage yard, and walking up the driveway to the Old Hall is the beautiful ornamental pond – where recently the evening TV weather was filmed for regional Television. There is heritage in abundance at Walton
Hall, and Walton Hall Gardens. The Estate also manages Walton Hall Golf Course, which is an 18 hole championship golf course.
