BOLTON footballers are travelling to Bangladesh for a three week tournament.
Team members from Shahjalal Unity FC, a Bangladeshi football squad, will fly out on Friday and will spend three weeks playing semi-professional teams.
Coach Abdul Basit, who has organised the trip with the help of Smithills councillor, Richard Silvester, will be taking the team of 35 youngsters.

Mr Basit, who works as the community cohesion officer for Bolton Wanderers, said: "I have been playing for Shahjalal United for many years and as part of this tour we will play teams from all over the Greater Sylhet district and in Chittagong. Everyone is really excited about it and all the players have been training very hard.
"This trip isn't just about playing football. Many of the youngsters have never been to Bangladesh and this will be their first experience in a country where either their parents or grandparents originally came from."
Fundraising for the tour has involved an Asian sportsman's dinner last month, which raised £5,000 with guests including Bangladeshi professional boxer Abdul Rashid and racing driver Zuber Haque.
Cllr Silvester said: "Apart from myself all the other tour members are of Bangladeshi origin. I have been invited as an independent member and have been helping with the organisation.
"My role will involve chairing a daily team meeting while in Bangladesh and speaking on behalf of the team when we visit towns and villages."
Some of these councillors will do anything other than what they were voted in to do.
As for chairing a daily team meeting, what does Councillor Silvester know about football? Nothing. Just an excuse for another junket.

What a sad old fart you must be Percy - Councillor Silvester just happens to represent me in Smithills - he does an excellent job and has helped me a number of times with problems and sorted them out for me. I'm pretty sure that Councillor Silvester is paying for his own trip - if not then it would have to be shown in his Council expenses so is not a 'junket ' as you say.
Furthermore, can Councillors not go on holiday or are they tied to their Council work ? I happen to think that it's good that Councillors have a life outside politics and good on Councillor Silvester for being involved in such a worthwhile trip.
I am sure his skills in Chairing meetings will be well utilised and it will be a successful tour.
As for making an assumption that Councillor Silvester knows nothing about football, he probably knows a lot more about it than you do !

Well, he won't be there to help you out with your little problems when he's in Bangladesh will he? You will have to go and mither someone else for a while.
On what basis are you "pretty sure" he is paying for his own trip?
It is not an assumption that he knows nothing about football - he doesn't.
Still, if the trip gets him away from bores like you he will probably enjoy it.

True Percy,
Councillor Silvester will not be available whilst away but he will be when he gets back - are you seriously suggesting therefore that every Councillor in the UK can never go on holiday or actually go anywhere and instead sit at home all day by the phone waiting in anticipation for one of their constituents ringing them - get real - I wonder if you have ever been on holiday because if you have you should be ashamed of yourself with your logic.
I am also "pretty sure" that Councillor Silvester is paying for this trip himself as this wouldn't be official Council business - why would the Council send Councillor Silvester who is not even in the ruling group on the Council to Bangladesh - if it were official Council business, then he would have to claim it from his expenses or it would be accounted for in the Council's finances, all of which is public information which you can easily find out - why don't you do this and then apologize for what you've said when you find out your wrong (which I doubt you would do anyway).
And as for your 'assumption' that Councillor Silvester knows nothing about football, where you at the Reebok on Sunday supporting Bolton - Councillor Silvester was because I saw him there and he has helped set up a youth project to get kids off the streets and playing football instead. If he didn't know anything about football, why would he be organising a football trip with a member of Bolton Wanderers - you'll be saying next that Mr. Basit doesn't either and that he's on a junket too !!
Kick the Councillor down is it - I think the truth of it is, you hold some kind of grudge against him for the good work that he does.

You seem to know an awful lot about Cllr Silvester, and have reacted to Percy in personal way, as though he were having a go at you.
Anyway, you're no doubt correct in all you said.

Hang on a minute you chaps! If this Silvester cove is a Bolton Councillor, why is he off gallivanting with a team from Oldham?
As regards paying for the trip, he did fund his own injections (however I suspect the anti Rabies one hasn't worked).

The fact that Councillor Silvester was at the Reebok confirms the fact that he knows nothing about football. And probably the only reason you were there was because he was. What do you do? Clean his shoes?
The unctuous drivel you spout shows you are completely in awe of him.
Are you his official apologist or does it just come naturally?
