Runners gear-up for ultimate test

A Preston runner is to compete in this year's Rome Marathon.

Rajesh Jinabhai, (left) 34 of Frenchwood only took up the sport twelve months ago and will take part in his first full marathon in March.

"It should be great experience as Rome is a wonderful city.

"The marathon begins and ends at the Coliseum and takes in some of the major sights."

Raj has been training alongside Osman Sidik of Blackburn who is taking part in this year's London Marathon.

Both are members of the Littlewoods Running Club and have competed in a number of half-marathons recently.

"The training is going pretty well. We are running up to 25 to 30 miles a week." added Osman who has competed in four marathons.

"In the coming weeks we will look to step up a gear."

Raj is hoping to raise over £2,000 for charity.

"I will be raising money for the St Catherines Hospital, Lostock Hall in memory of my father who passed away 12 years ago.

"He would have been sixty this year and he stayed at the hosptial before losing his battle against Cancer."
