Coppice storm to another cup win
Another month and another Coppice United master class.
The Oldham side who were crowned North West champions at Blackburn Rovers Football Academy in May added two new accolades.
They won the Jack Abbot Premier Division Shield in the Oldham Sunday League against favourites Line Side FC. Steve Barrow scored twice to give Coppice the Edge in a fiercely competitive game.
Yasir Ali and Ikram Daud also scored at the game played at Chadderton FC.
Following that final they took on Blackburn United in the semi-final of the North West play-offs.
The other game was played between Rochdale Asia and Nelson United FC.
In a repeat of the final just ten days earlier Coppice again ran out 4-2 winners against Blackburn.
After racing into 2-0 lead Coppice were pegged back in the second half as Blackburn levelled on the hour mark. But Coppice proved too strong again and took their chances to secure final place.
In the other semi-final the game ended goalless and Rochdale won through on penalties.
The game though will be remembered for an injury to Nelson player Hussain Abbass who broke his leg. We hear he is back at home recovering. We all wish him the best.
In the final Coppice showed they are a real force to be reckoned with. After going down 2-0 they came from behind to win…yes you’ve guessed it…4-2!
A quick fire hat-trick by Haroon Hussain doing the job.
Coppice will now go on to represent the North West at the National Asian Football Champions in Scotland in September.
Coppice did show that they are beatable. Sandwiched between all those other finals was a game played at Boundary Park.
Here was a final which on paper looked winnable. But the side lost the Challenge Cup 2-1 to Radcliffe FC. A lesson learned?
