The shortlist, which was revealed on the One Show on BBC One last night, was put together by a panel of sports editors from national and regional newspapers and magazines.
Presented by Sue Barker, Gary Lineker and Jake Humphrey, the show – the 58th BBC Sports Personality of the Year – will broadcast live from MediaCityUK, Salford, on December 22.
Amir was named as British Boxer of the Year earlier this month.
