Lancashire: New year delight for Canaries

Canaries have got off to a great start to the New Year in the LEP Preston Sunday League.

Ten points out of a possible twelve have propelled them to the dizzy heights of fifth. And only one loss! Can’t remember them being so high-up the table in years.

Results: 5-1 vs Unicorn (Khan 2, Televinov 2, Toorawah); 7-3 vs Unicorn (Khan 2, Televinov 2, Toorawah 3); 2-2 vs Leyland (Khan, Hafeji) NOTE: Estonian midfield player Konstantin Televinov has signed for Clitheroe. He played for FC Tumk in his home country.

First division: Fishwick have only played three league games so far. Last season they went 12 unbeaten - this year a scappy 3-2 loss to AFC Longridge means they have some catching up to do. It’s going to be a very busy March and April gentlemen.

2-1 vs Fulwood East End (Best, Sheth); 2-3 vs AFC Longridge (Best, 2) Blackburn Combination League Premier Division: This is an impressive run by any standards by Blackburn United who have picked up 15 points out of 15 since December. And most importantly they have kept the defence very tight thanks to the return of two of their most experienced back line. They come up against two of their title challengers in the next month. They have also looked to keep their goal difference up (don’t mention last year!) Results: 10-1 vs Alex (Jav Master 5, Zuber, Nasir 2; Kailm, Ahmed) ; 4-1 vs Witton Albion (Nasir; Jam, Kalim, Saqib); 4-0 vs Rishton (Zuber, Jav Master, Nasir, Jam).

After two back to back losses - two comfortable wins mean Bank Top can still break into that top three. The fixture list gives them the impetus they need and heading into late March the league title may well be decided by games involving this club. Bank Top who have games in hand play champions Ivy Hotel twice and Blackburn United in the last four games.

Results: 1-3 vs Knuzden (Minaj); 9-0 vs Alex (Ralph 6, Wasim 3); 5-2 vs Fielden (Sid, Wasim, Ralph, Yasin, Shakil) Division 2: Things have finally turned around at Blackburn United Reserves. It was good to see them pick-up five valuable points in their last three games after a horrid start. A couple of weeks back you would have put your money on them relegated but now it seems they could escape.

Results: 3-2 vs Belthorn; 2-2 vs Blackburn Olympic; 2-2 George Hotel.

Division 3: What is it with Whalley Range and draws? Only George Hotel in division two have drawn more games (7) this season. If they had managed to win just two of those five draws they could have been fifth!

Results: 1-3 vs Witton Inn; 3-3 Fallon Ales Another win for Pendle Youth is not enough to get them off the bottom. But they will look to build on this victory with what still is a very young team.

Results: 0-5 vs Navigation; 3-1 Hole’ith Wall.

Pendle Charity League.

Premier Division: Games have been coming thick and fast Pendle way this month. Paak United got two good wins to push themselves up the table including 5-1 thrashing of former champions Red Lion.

RESULTS: 7-1 vs Sacred Heart United; 2-3 vs G E Redskins; 5-1 vs Red Lion Division one: The big game of the month saw Life take on Paak B. Both sides had had good starts to the season and it was Life who came through unscathed with a 4-2 win. Pity they couldn’t continue that form and went down 5-0 a couple o weeks later.

Results: 4-2 vs Paak B; 0-5 vs Weston FC.
