Bolton Asians are a class apart

Bolton took on Oldham in the final of our Homecare For You sponsored five-a-side tournament.

The tournament now in its third year was held in memory of Suhel Congress and Irfan Musa who tragically died in a car crash in 2005.

Held at the Powerleague Complex (formerly the JJB Soccerdome Blackburn) the tournament attracted over 70 clubs from across the North West.

And it was a Bolton Asians FC side that was overflowing with an abundance of speed and skill that came away with the honours.

The boo's soon turned to cheers as the crisp passing and lethal finishing dumped one of the home town's strongest contendors - Inter Milan - out of the tournament.

Their opponents in the final Sona FC of Oldham had breezed to the semi-finals and were heading home to the surprise package of the day Babu FC.

But a late equalizer gave them a lifeline and they managed to take the game to penalties where goalkeeper of the tournament Abdul Rehman saved a crucial kick to send the Oldhamers through.

But in the final they were no match for a Bolton Asians side that was in scintillating form with captain Faisal Mohammed leading from the front.

The biggest shock of the day saw the youngsters of Deepdale La Coruna beat holders Canaries in the second round on penalties.

It was an upset of mammoth proportions. Goalkeeper Patel slotted the crucial penalty to send them into dreamland.
