The final for this year’s AMT Lawyers Football Championships will take place at Ewood Park, the home of Blackburn Rovers.

Entry is free for all those wanting to watch the match on Fríday May 11 at 6.30.

The tournament is sponsored by AMT Lawyers and is commonly known as the Asian Image Cup and was first held in 2002. It attracts eight amateur league clubs from across the region and is open to players from all backgrounds.

In previous years the final has taken place at the homes of Chester City and Fleetwood Town. Preliminary round matches are held at Victoria Park the home of North West Counties League club Nelson FC.

Shuiab Khan, Editor of Asian Image said, “It is fitting that on the 20th anniversary of the newspaper we are hosting the final at Ewood Park.

“The tournament began with only four teams and many of the players back then were from an Asian background. In recent years many of the teams are mixed in their make-up and it shows the unifying nature of sport and football.

“I’m sure the two teams that do reach the final will be looking forward to be playing at the stadium for the first time.”

“I have no doubt that there will be many players, officials and spectators who are making their first visit to Ewood Park tonight, so I hope that this will be a chance for them all to see the fantastic range of amenities that have contributed to us being named as the EFL’s Family Club of the Year for 2018.

“Blackburn Rovers – both through the club and its award-winning Community Trust – undertakes a huge amount of work within our local community to make the club as welcoming a venue for all as it can possibly be, and we trust that the warm welcome that has been recognised at the highest level this season we be felt by everyone in attendance this evening.

“Best of luck to both teams taking part and I look forward to the chance to hopefully enjoy welcoming the competition back to our stadium in years to come.”
