A major ‘Unite the Community’ Fun Day and football tournament is being organised in July.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council in partnership with Blackburn United have teamed up with volunteers from the local community aiming to inspire others to make a difference to our world.

The event is taking place on Sunday July 9 at Witton Park, Blackburn.

The fun day will consist of a Football tournament with proceeds donated to local charities close to home as well as far away.

Any teams who are interested and have players aged from under 7s to under 14s are able to participate. Teams will be made up of 5, 7 or 9 players each and the football matches will be refereed by responsible, honest and qualified referees.

The referees who will be participating in the games will also be working as volunteers on the day and anyone else who would like to volunteer are encouraged to contact the designated individuals below.

The cost for each team to participate in the tournament is £25 per team.

Organisers said the under 7s and under 8s games will be 5 a side which will be taking place on the grass pitches at Witton Park and the under 9s and the under 10s will be 7 a side matches taking place on the grass pitches at Witton Park.

The under 11 games will be 9 a side taking place on the grass pitches.

The only games taking place on the Witton Park artificial turf pitches will be the under 12s, under 13s and under 14s which will also be 7 a side games.

Any referees who are interested in playing in the football tournament are welcome to register through the designated individuals. The cost is £5 per referee.

Organisers have multiple stalls available for anyone who would like to purchase food, drink or anything else, the cost per stall for the entire day is £50.
