The big Bolton derby looks set to take centre stage at this year’s AMT Lawyers North West Football Championships.

The annual draw was held in Blackburn this year and was attended by managers and players from competing clubs.

Bolton United, the 2013 champions, were drawn out last and will take on Nomads in the final quarter-final tie on Sunday May 8 at 7pm.

Both sides met last in 2014 at the same stage and at the time United were expected to walk over their opponents.

But this tournament has continued to throw up its fair share of surprises and a brave Nomads surrendered a two-goal lead before going out on penalties.

A vastly improved AFC Preston will play Blackburn United, whilst Asia FC face 2014 champions Halifax Hammers.

The tournament’s most successful side Coppice United will face new side Euro Garages or Paak United. Coppice have reached seven out of the last eight finals.

In a first for the tournament any one side may have participated against Euro Garages for the play-off match.

Local side Paak were drawn out first and will compete in a play-off against debutants Euro Garages of Blackburn.

The tournament first held in 2002 celebrates it’s fifteenth anniversary in 2016 and has been supported by local firm AMT Lawyers.

Asjad Hussain, who picked out the sides, said: “It is wonderful to be supporting the cup again and amateur football in this way.

“The clubs always play in great spirits and we look forward to crowning the North West champions on May 16 at Fleetwood Town.”

Nine clubs will compete for the title in 2016. With an already busy fixture list for many amateur clubs this year the tournament will be held over a two weeks period.

The management at Nelson Football Club have again kindly permitted us to host the majority of games at Victoria Park.
