India will treat their Group 2 match against Bangladesh as a knockout in Bangalore - because that is how they believe they must approach every fixture in the ICC World Twenty20.

Evergreen seamer Ashish Nehra explained the hosts' attitude, as they try to consolidate following their victory over another set of neighbours in Kolkata where they prevailed by six wickets against Pakistan.

The pre-tournament favourites badly needed that success, having collapsed to 79 all out to lose their opening Super 10 match to New Zealand in Nagpur.

Bangladesh are pointless and apparently heading for an early exit after their two defeats to date against Pakistan, and then Australia on Monday.

The qualifiers are also compromised by the absence of frontline bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny, both banned for illegal actions.

Even so, Nehra knows India must be at their best to make it two wins out of three. "Nobody is taking Bangladesh lightly," said the 36-year-old left-armer.

"Everyone has seen what they have done in the last three or four years.

"The way they have progressed is amazing. So we'll have to play to our potential to beat a team like them."

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's India must therefore strike a balance between belief in their collective ability and respect for talented opponents.

Nehra added: "We are very confident. "With the firepower we have, if we deliver we'll definitely win the game."

One more slip on Wednesday, however, and India will be in trouble. "In this format, everybody knows from game one that more or less every game is a knockout game," said Nehra.

"Only two teams will qualify (from each group for the semi-finals).

"There's a possibility you win three out of four games and still you won't qualify. "So until the time you lift the trophy, every game is a knockout game. There is not too much room for error."
