AMIR Khan says Floyd Mayweather will have run out excuses not to fight him if he beats Chris Algieri on Friday night.

The Bolton superstar is determined to get his dream fight with the unbeaten pound-for-pound champion before the 38-year-old hangs up his boxing gloves and knows time is running out.

But he says the ball is firmly in Mayweather's court and victory in New York against a rival who has lost just once – last time out against Manny Pacquiao – will back the American into a corner.

Khan said: "I have done everything asked of me to get a fight with Mayweather.

"He asked me to have a few fights at 147lbs and prove myself and I have done that.

"Mayweather Snr has been talking about me after the Pacquiao fight saying he thinks I would be an easy opponent.

"If he genuinely thinks that then why haven’t they taken it?

"They talk about me but then find an excuse not to fight me.

"I think they can see I can cause problems for them because they do not normally talk about other fighters they are not facing.

"Deep down I don’t think they want the fight.

"They keep hoping Amir Khan is going to have a bad day so they can say ‘ we knew he wasn’t good enough’.

"I’m answering all the questions.

"This is their last hope for me to fail and there can be no excuses if I come through this fight."

Khan says his full focus is on Friday's clash with Algieri.

But once that is out of the way, and providing he gets the victory he is hoping for, he says he is willing to break with tradition and fight in September – just two months after Ramadan – to secure a date with Mayweather.

The 28-year-old added: "My whole focus is on this fight and I cannot afford to look past it.

"But if I win then it will prove I should be in the ring with Mayweather.

"If that is in September then I am confident I can be ready.

"I will have enough time to train.

"I cannot change the rules or dates of Ramadan. but I would still have eight or nine weeks afterwards.

"I would have to fast and train at the same time but mental strength would see me through.

"It would be hard but it can be done.

"If I keep ticking over in the gym after this fight, like I usually do anyway, and not let the weight go up then I could be ready for a mid-September date.

"If it does not happen in September then I don’t think it will ever happen.

"But I am not worrying about that. If it doesn’t happen then there are other fights out there for me."
