We look back at the best bowling moments that shaped Cricket World Cup history...
5. Shahid Afridi vs. Kenya 2011
.
Rather than being ‘Boom Boom’ with the bat Shahid Afridi was particularly destructive with the ball in the World Cup of 2011. Taking 21 wickets in just 8 matches emphasised his superiority with the ball and his impressive figures of 5-16 rattled the Kenyans.
4. Kemar Roach vs. Netherlands 2011
.
It may be hard to remember the Netherlands as being a good cricket side but in 2011 they caused more than a few shocks by beating England thanks to Ryan ten Doeschate. However, when they faced West Indies Kemar Roach simply blew them away. He ended with incredible figures of 6-27 as well as bowling a brilliant hat-trick.
3. Ashish Nehra vs. England 2003
.
Nehra well and truly blew England out of the water by taking centre stage in Durban. He managed to clean more than half of England’s batting order by taking six wickets. England batsmen were unable to handle his swing, pitch, pace and bounce He only managed to leak 23 runs in his ten overs bowled.
2. AJ Bichel vs. England 2003
.
Aussie Andy Bichel destroyed old enemy England with immaculate bowling. On a slow pitch Bichel was able to strangle England’s innings eventually helping Australia win with two balls to spare. He helped with the bat but it was his extraordinary figures of 7-20 that restricted England to 204.
1. Shane Warne vs. South Africa 1999
.
South Africa were storming ahead looking to book their place in the finals at 48-0. Herschelle Gibbs in good form was to witness of the finest piece of spinning ever by none other than Shane Warne. Landing outside leg stump it fizzed passed a startled Gibbs to clip the stumps. Warne wasn’t finished and ended with figures of 4 for 29 to waltz Australia into the Finals again.
