Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg unveiled a new Force India on Wednesday described by team principal Vijay Mallya as "mean" and "hungry".

For Perez in particular, the launch of the team's new livery was a poignant affair given it unfolded on his home turf of Mexico at the futuristic-looking Museo Soumaya in Mexico City.

The car on show, however, was not the one that will make a delayed debut at the second test in Barcelona next month, with Force India opting to skip the maiden four-day outing in Jerez from February 1 in favour of additional development time.

As per the regulations, though, there was a new nose, more refined this year in comparison to last season's 'ugly' developments given the interpretation of the regulations.

In terms of colours, the Silverstone-based marque have opted for a predominantly black-and-silver livery with streaks of orange.

With a Mexican driver on board, and with Formula 1 due to return to Mexico for a grand prix later this year for the first time in 23 years, Mallya remarked it was a "no-brainer" for the team to do something "really different" in terms of a launch.

As for the car, Mallya added: "We've added silver because I think it makes it look more mean, more hungry, and that's what we have."

Last season proved to be the best in the team's history, scoring a record number of points (155), and only just missing out on a high of fifth in the constructors' championship.

But it means the pressure is on to deliver again, a fact recognised by Mallya who said: "It was fantastic for us within the team that up until four races to go we were ahead of previous champions McLaren in the constructors' championship.

"We were acknowledged as a team that punches above its weight, but I'd like to acknowledge the passion, dedication and loyalty of all those working within the team.

"The 2015 car is a refinement of what we learned last year, and we hope it will really prove its worth, competing with the big boys in Formula One.

"We have two brilliant drivers; Checo Perez, a wonderful guy, gutsy, who loves his racing, and Nico Hulkenberg, exceptionally talented.

"We hope they will steer this car to the front of the grid, and hopefully to a few podiums during the current year."

For Perez, there was understandable elation at presenting the car in his home country, with his aim now to reach new highs on track.

"Most of the time I've presented cars in Europe, far away from home, so it's really emotional to be close to my family, friends and people who have supported me throughout my career," said Perez.

"We're starting the season on a high like this, so I'm sure it's going to be a great year."

Hulkenberg, who comfortably outscored Perez in the drivers' standings - 96 points to 59 - also appreciates he has to take steps forward.

"It was the best year for me in terms of points," said Hulkenberg.

"It was also the most successful year in the team's history, so we've a really solid foundation.

"I'm now looking forward to us improving, taking the next step."
