Misbah-ul-Haq will captain Pakistan at next year's World Cup, and Shahid Afridi at the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.

Incumbent Test and one-day international captain Misbah, a veteran batsman at 40, was confirmed on Tuesday in his position for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand early next year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board also announced that all-rounder Afridi, another player with vast experience, will take over the Twenty20 captaincy following Mohammad Hafeez's resignation after the last global tournament in Bangladesh in March.

Afridi will take over immediately, and Misbah retains his two leadership roles.
