Mum knows best!

Muslim matrimonial internet sites..there are loads of them. But how about one which lets the families meet BEFORE the two prospective partners.

Kismat-Konnections launched last year by a North West woman is traditional in every sense of the word but the initial contact takes place over the internet.

Mrs Rahman who runs the service from Wigan says that many people still want to meet their wedding partner like their mums and dads did.

“It is up to the two families to send the details of their sons and daughters to us. And then we find a suitable match.

“We didn’t think it would be such a success when we set up but it has proved to be popular with people in our community. It seems the traditional way of finding a marriage partner is not dead after all.

“It is also Islamically viable and many families have commended us for this.”

Parents or single Muslims can log on and fill out the simple application. Kismat-Konnections then shortlist applicants that they believe may be of interest to each other.

“When you find a particular member of interest from the applicants shortlist, we can then try to achieve a mutual interest and can exchange contact details or help arrange a meeting between the members and their families.

“The service includes updating our applicants about relevant matches, formal exchange of personal details and arrangement of both parties.

“There is a user-friendly and one to one help in finding suitable matches and we are fluent in English, Urdu, Gujarati, and Punjabi.

“We expect our members to give us their feedback and keep us informed with regards to any progress being made.”

The company encourages people to do their own research before meeting the match and the family.

“Not every match is going to be right for you. Kisma-Konnection is about bringing two compatible people and their families together who have a solid foundation from which a long-term relationship would have a high probability of success. You still need to carefully consider whether this particular person is one with whom you would like to spend the rest of your life.”

With the growth of single Muslim matrimonial internet sites in recent years there has been concern that some are simply used as ‘dating sites’. This has put off some Muslims.

“Some people do not feel comfortable having their details on websites for everyone to see. So the privacy and the fact that the parents are involved in the process is very comforting for some clients.

“Much has been written about arranged marriages in the media and it has a very bad image at the moment. Of course many people realise there is big difference between forced and arranged marriages.

“But it surprising that many Asian people still want their parents to take a leading role in choosing their marriage partner. they would rather their parents see and meet the person first and many will go with what their parents choice is.

“Realistically in our culture the unity of families is so important and forms the basis of a successful marriage.”

Mrs Rahman added, “It was actually my mum who launched the website and I took it over gave it a re-branding.”
