Welcome home for desert athlete after ‘race of death’

A BUSINESSMAN has completed one of the globe’s toughest endurance races.
Tahir Khan, of Chorley New Road, Bolton, took part in Racing The Planet Namibia 2009 in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for charities, including Bolton Hospice.
As part of the challenge, Mr Khan, aged 41, ran 250km in seven days across the Namib Desert — one of the world’s oldest deserts, known for its huge sand dunes.
He said: “I am referring to it as the race of death, because many times I felt I was near to death.
“It was very tough, you can’t imagine how tough unless you do a race like this.
“I feel I have achieved something really great and I doubt I’ll repeat it again in my lifetime.”
The founder and chief executive officer of Bolton-based Perpetual Care has raised £2,000 so far and is looking for more sponsors.
