A man was treated in hospital after being assaulted outside an Oldham mosque.
At around 5pm on Monday 14 July 2008, a 39-year-old man entered the Jamia Masid Mosque on Werneth Hall Road. He was involved in a brief altercation with a young man he believed had assaulted his son earlier in the evening.
The man then left the mosque shortly afterwards and was approached by a man who led him to a nearby alleyway behind it.
The man was then assaulted by two men. He was treated at the Royal Oldham Hospital for cuts to his forehead and hands and swelling to his face.
One of the offenders is described as Asian, in his early 20s with a round, stubbly face. He was wearing a black T-shirt, jeans and trainers. There is no description of the other man.
Detective Constable Alan Sanders of Oldham CID said: "This man was violently assaulted by two men in a busy area.
"There were a lot of people in and around the mosque at the time of the attack and I would appeal to anyone who knows who is responsible or who may have witnessed the incident to contact police.
"I will not speculate on the motive but the man did have an argument with another man prior to the attack and I would also like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed that incident."
Anyone with any information is asked to call Oldham CID on 0161 856 8952, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
